Greetings from the second largest state (and state with the first largest ego) in the nation. Yup, that's right folks, I made it to Texas. I know you were all holding your breath. It took four days, six tanks of gas, countless bathroom stops, and two Denny's meals, but I made it. I am currently living in the Candelwood Suites in Clear Lake, which is a 6 minute drive to work. The way I am spread out, you would never know I am only here two more days. I signed a lease for an apartment within walking distance of work, so I will move in on Saturday. I started my job this week, and I am loving it. SpaceCenter Houston is the official visitor center of Johnson Space Center. Yup, Im back at a Visitor Center...it's like college suddently went full circle, only with less beer. So, anyway, I am writing massive amounts of Astronomy curriculum at work. This week, I have learned how to make a solar oven out of a Pringles tube, I have received the training schedule for the Neutral Buoyancy Lab (yea, they send me these things, I am THAT important), and I have almost had lunch with an astronaut (except that he was busy training on a new tool for his mission that got pushed back...oh well....).
I will post, over the next couple of weeks, some blogs from my road trip with Joy across the southwest. However, these posts are long and detailed and take a lot of time to write, so they won't happen for a while. This weekend is reserved for some heavy duty thesis writing. For now, I will leave you all with some pictures of work.
First: the entry gate of work, what I drive through every morning (athough it is not actually dark when I drive through it):
Sunrise over Johnson Space Center (from the car):
SpaceCenter Houston, from the office level (this is what I walk past when I come out of my office):
So, yup, there ya go, I am sure I will get more interesting as the time goes on. And the road trip blogs might be the most exciting things you will read for a long time, so prepare youself. For now, I am off to the gym and then to enjoy some Grey's Anatomy.
